Here's something from Bryn Schumacher, a MAC member who has just welcomed a baby girl into her family. Ojas is akin to immunity or inner strength that translates into overall health. You can strengthen Ojas by getting good quality sleep, managing your energy and stress well, maintaining good digestion, and by eating certain foods. Almonds are an example of an Ojas-promoting food.
Ojas Vitality, life force or "ojas" in Sanskrit, is something that you want to nurture especially during postpartum. Bryn loves this Fig and Almond Ojas Building Smoothie:
10 raw almonds 3 dried figs 1 tsp. Cardamom Pinch ground black pepper 1 1/2 cup cows milk (or milk of choice)
Soak almonds and figs overnight in spring or filtered water. Peel skin from almonds by pinching them. Slice stem off figs and cut in half. Place milk and spices into a small saucepan and bring to a simmer. Allow to cool before blending. Place all ingredients into blender and blend to desired consistency. Drink immediately and enjoy!
Makes a great breakfast or snack. Yields 1 large serving.
